Basic Education for Awareness, Reforms and Empowerment / Basic Education for Afghan Refugees is a transformation
of a bilateral project agreed between the Governments of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Federal Republic of Germany in 1989 for sustainable development in basic education. BEFARe was transformed in to a national NGO in Pakistan in 2003. Initially registered as a trust, it was later registered under the societies act of 1860 in the office of the registrar joint stock companies & societies in 2006. Since then, the organization has actively worked with Pakistan’s federal, provincial and local Government departments and structures to successfully implement a wide array of programs with the support of donors such as UNHCR, UNESCO, UNICEF, UNDP, ILO, IOM, USAID, BMZ, EC, World Bank, MSI, World Vision, CIDA, TAF, DFID, AAR Japan, PRM and others. With profound experience in implementing innovative development interventions, BEFARe has accumulated extensive knowledge on the overall socio-economic conditions, sector policies, strategies, institutional structures and procedures in the country.
Over a span of more than two decades, BEFARe has implemented mega projects across the country in thematic areas of third party monitoring, surveys and research studies, education, health, livelihoods, governance, women empowerment, democracy, energy conservation and others. With the mission of delivering innovative, evidence-based, locally driven solutions that advance the aspirations of beneficiary communities and our donors/partners nationwide, BEFARe has for more than 25 years collaborated with a wide range of national and international organizations to design and implement programs which has bolstered its contextual familiarity of sensitive issues, access limitations and security challenges in implementing and monitoring programs across the country
